P&G Salon Pro Student Competition

P&G Salon Professionals Student Competition - Montreal 2013

Last year we were asked by P&G’s Wella Canada division to put together a simple Facebook tab inviting student stylists to enter a competition that showcased their talents in one of Wella’s key style trends for the year.  The tab was a great success, as was the competition itself, and so we were invited to create a tab for this year’s competition as well.

We turned the volume up a bit and went for a bolder design. We paid a great deal more attention to the mobile web as well; the tabs are not only responsive, but also feature retina ready images for double pixel density devices like iPhones 4 & 5 and the newest generation iPads.

There was an additional requirement this time around for two separate tabs; one for Montreal and one for Toronto.  Furthermore, since Wella’s sales team now uses iPads when visiting salons, we needed an ‘app-like’ start page where the reps could choose one of the two cities.

P&G Salon Professionals Student Competition - Toronto 2013We used the custom Responsive Facebook Tab Framework we posted yesterday and you can read all about it by visiting that post.

The images themselves were provided to us by P&G/Wella’s fantastic creative team, with the exception of the cityscapes which were purchased from iStock.

There is one little detail that we’re unhappy about; after we were done, we came to the stark realization that Facebook had removed the ability to view custom tabs from their iOS apps.  So those users are going to have to surf these pages directly from the hosting domain, rather than within the app.  This normally wouldn’t be a big deal except that most of the promotion will be done via Facebook and it really would be ideal if users could just view the tabs directly ‘in-app’.

Surf over to Wella’s Facebook Page and have a look at the tabs in their intended form.
