Brampton Adult Soccer

A little known secret… back in 2003 when I first started playing in the Brampton Adult Soccer league I was very unimpressed with it’s basic 2 page website that looked like it was put together by a high school student from the late 80s.  So I contacted the league and offered to design, develop and maintain a far more advanced site.  The truth of the matter was, that I had never designed, developed or maintained a site that was actually supposed to be viewed by anyone before, but I didn’t publicize that fact.  By 2004, the site was up and running, fully functioning and saw increased traffic month to month.  Every now and again the league would request an additional bit of functionality and I’d scour the web looking for snippets of code and tutorials that would teach me how to get it done.

By 2009, with a great deal of help and custom programming from Michael Nelles of Apex Media, the site was redesigned and relaunched in it’s current iteration.  It now features a League site, Magazine/Blog site and a Community/Forum site.  The league site is custom built and has automated, real time standings updates based on statistics provided by referees in their post-match reports.

The Magazine site is driven and powered by WordPress and the Community Forums are driven by the standalone version of bbPress.  In the next year or so all three sub-sections of the site will most likely be re-employed in one custom coded WordPress installation with a custom designed theme framework.

The current, live version of BramptonSoccer.com has over 100,000 page views per month from approx. 24,000 visitors.
